University City is a centrally located community in San Diego. I know “UC” like the palm of my hand, because I grew up here! It is near UCSD, Rose Canyon, and San Clemente Canyon. Just south of UC is Clairemont, just west is La Jolla, just north is Mira Mesa, and just east is Miramar.

UC has a mall called UTC (University Town Center). They have recently renovated it and added shops, added a movie theater, and have redone the gym. This mall used to be relatively empty, but now it is hard to find a parking spot!

There are only a handful of businesses and restaurants in UC proper (not including UTC area, which is about 0.5 miles away from UC down Gennessee Ave.), but there are many a short drive away. UC has a Vons and Sprouts, and Trader Joe’s is just a 5 minute drive away. UC is part of the “golden triangle,” which is aptly named because the 52, 5, and 805 freeways form a triangle around the area, making it very easy to get around.

UC is very centrally located in relation to the rest of San Diego. It only takes about 8-10 minutes to get to La Jolla and the beach. I would recommend driving through UC and around the UTC area to see if this part of town might be a good fit for you!
